Spreadsheets and CSVs: add a column, write the formula, build the chart, or turn a messy export into something with real headers and types.

The sales CSV export is a mess: headers on row 7, three junk columns, dates in two formats. You need it usable.
Spreadsheets. Messy tabular data in, clean spreadsheet out - that's the xlsx skill's exact trigger, including malformed rows, misplaced headers, and junk data. The deliverable is a spreadsheet, so nothing else fits.
You want a spreadsheet where sales per region auto-compute, a summary tab charts the trend, and formulas update when data changes.
Spreadsheets. Formulas, charts, multiple tabs, live recalculation - that's a real spreadsheet file, xlsx's deliverable. An interactive artifact could SHOW this, but the ask is a .xlsx that keeps working in Excel after Claude is gone.
Finance sent a 4,000-row export where the headers are on row 7, dates are text, and totals are typed in by hand. You need it usable.
Spreadsheets. Every option handles a document of some kind, which is the point of the round. This artifact is tabular and stays tabular: real headers, real date types, formulas replacing hand-typed totals. That is xlsx. pdf would win if the data were trapped in a PDF, and it is not.
You have a messy CSV of quarterly sales. The board meets on Thursday and wants the story, not the data.
Spreadsheets. xlsx first: the CSV needs real types, formulas and a chart before anything is worth showing. pptx second, because what the board sees is slides. Reverse it and you are building a deck around numbers you have not checked yet, which is how a wrong figure ends up on a projector.
